18/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - Asked on Monday about the EU's reaction to the condemning to death of Iranian intellectual Hashem Aghajari for questioning Islamic clerics' right to govern Iran, Gunnar Wiegand, spokesperson for External Relations Commissioner Chris Patten, said the Commission was very concerned about the Court of First Instance's decision and that the EU's reaction would be transmitted to Iran through diplomatic channels. He said that the negotiations due to start with Iran in mid-December in Teheran over a cooperation agreement covered both trade and political issues, including human rights. The Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazzi will be meeting the High Representative for EDSP, Javier Solana, in Brussels on Monday.
