Brussels, 04/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - According to Reuters, which quotes a European Commission official, the Community Executive is working on a proposal for a confidence label aimed at setting minimum rules for consumer protection in e-commerce and thus boosting the credibility of this type of trade. Traders who earn the label could place a logo on their site to alert consumers to the fact that they respect protection standards, whether these relate to personal data, respect for advertised prices, the transparency of information or means of recourse in case of complaints. The Commission, which is working on the proposal in collaboration with the European Consumers' Organization (Beuc) and the Union of Industrial and Employers' Confederations of Europe (Unice), is expected to present the results of its work early next year.
