Brussels, 04/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the European Institute of Asian Studies will be sponsoring a conference on "Integration and Solidarity between the Union and Asean" on 25 and 26 November next in Brussels. The European Parliament will host this fourth session of Euro-Asian "think tank" dialogue, focusing on the contrast between integration and solidarity in Europe and with Asean (the point of view of one of the least advanced countries - Cambodia, challenges and opportunities, political and strategic dimension of relations), political and strategic developments on both sides (perspectives after the Copenhagen Asean Summit), the perceptions of the Doha development cycle (question of intellectual property rights, commerce, investment and market access), the relations that Asean and the EU maintain respectively with China (race for foreign investment, implications for the EU, European perspective of Sino-Asean relations). Speakers will include the Director General of the World Trade Organisation, Supachai Panichpakdi, Members of the EP (Hartmut Nassauer, Patricia Mc Keanna, Luis Berenguer Fuster, Chris Huhne, Elly Plooij van Gorsel), representatives of the European Commission, academic and business circles, and the Ambassador of Laos Vongprachanh Sonasinh.
