Brussels, 04/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Greens/European Free Alliance Group is organising, on 13 November, at the European Parliament in Brussels, a conference entitled "Media, power and democracy". Four round tables will successively cover: (1) media concentration and globalisation with, notably, German Green member Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Christine Ockrent (France 3) and Shella Cassells (BskyB); (2) "Media and politics: who controls whom?" with Italian Green member Reinhold Messner, Freimut Duve, OSCE representative on the freedom of the media, Aidan White (European Federation of Journalists), Eric Joszef (correspondent of the daily "Liberation", in Rome); (3) "Media and marketing: how to ensure cultural plurality", with Austrian Green member Mercedes Echerer, the producer Volker Schlöndorff and Jean-Michel Baer, Director at the DG Culture of the European Commission; (4) "Media and EU: towards better European regulation?", with Italian Green member Monica Frassoni, Caroline Thomson (BBC), Jürgen Mensching, Director at DG Competition at the Commission, Jo Gröbel, Professor at the European Media Institute (Düsseldorf), and Thierry Stoll, Director at the DG Internal Market at the Commission.
