Brussels, 08/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - On 3 October, the Danish Presidency made the following declaration on behalf of the EU: "The EU applauds the work of the Organisation of American States (OAS) and its Facilitators (Sir Shridath Ramphal for Belize and Paul Reichler for Guatemala) in helping the Governments of Belize and Guatemala to have within their grasp a mutually acceptable and honourable agreement to resolve their territorial differendum. The constructive approach taken by the Government of Honduras on the maritime issues must also be commended. The EU hopes that the work of the Facilitators can lead to an early conclusion of the Belize and Guatemalan territorial differendum, which would pave the way for closer collaboration between the two countries at a time when Central America is seeking closer social and economic integration."
