08/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - As well as the results already announced, the ECOFIN Council has not advanced on pending issues concerning the energy taxation directive (derogation for road diesel, transition period), pointed out the President of the Council, Thor Pedersen, calling on Member States for more flexibility. Commissioner Solbes confirmed that an agreement could be found at the end of the year with regard to the co-ordination of economic and social policies. The Commission confirmed that the public cover system for airline insurance would be completed at the end of October. Ministers finally pointed out that they had to continue work on "common standards" within the Stability Pact. EUROPE will be returning to this point.
