New WTO Director General places emphasis before MEPs on need to decide on controversial chapters of Doha before autumn 2004

Brussels, 02/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - Speaking for the first time before the European Parliament - accompanied by Commissioner Pascal Lamy, following a visit to Washington - the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Supachai Panitchpakdi stressed the absolute need to close the Doha Round as agreed in 2004, and even earlier, regarding the more contentious chapters of the Agenda.
