Brussels, 27/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - At the end of meetings held on Thursday in Brussels with the European Commission and President Prodi, the Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, "We have agreed in principle that the European Union will improve its market access for Vietnamese products and in return Vietnam will consider more favourable conditions for European companies to work in the insurance, shipping and transportation sectors in Vietnam". The Prime Minister, moreover, stressed that the EU was the biggest aid donor to his country and had become the biggest trade partner. According to Vietnam's official media, textile exports from Hanoi towards the EU are said to have earned the country around $450 million during the first eight months of the year, almost one third of its total earnings from textiles and garment exports.
