19/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - As part of it 8th "Chaire Glaverbel" European studies project, the Institute of European Studies (IEE) at the Catholic University of Louvain is organising a programme on "The European Union and the USA". The programme will start on 28 October 2002 and end on 30 April 2003. European Commissioner for Trade, Pascal Lamy, will be speaking on the theme of globalisation during the inaugural session, which will be opened by IEE President, Michel Dumoulin. On 30 October, Professor Maurice Vaïsse, from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris will speak on the subject of a, "European or Atlantic Europe?". On 27 November Jim Cloos from the EU Secretariat General of the Council of Europe (and former Head of Cabinet of the then President of the European Commission, Jacques Santer), will be discussing "United States - European Union: divorce or new partnership?". On 26 February, Professor Peter Kenen from the University of Princeton, will be discussing the role of the Euro and the dollar. On 12 March, Nicole Gnessotto, Director of the European Union Institute of Security Studies (Paris) will be assessing the Union in its role of "international player".
