Commission decides to deepen its probe into joint control of GVS by ENBW and ENI

Brussels, 17/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the European commission decided to undertake an in-depth investigation into the proposed joint acquisition of the German regional gas distributor Gazversorgung Suddeutschland (GVS) by the Italian energy company ENI and Energie Baden-Wurttemberg (EnBW), which is a subsidiary of the French EDF. At the current stage, the Commission hs concerns that the deal might reinforce the already strong position of GVS is the transmission and distribution of gas in the region of Baden-Wurttemberg, along the Franco-German border.
