Brussels, 20/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has given the go-ahead for Alsen AG (part of the Holcim company that makes cement and concrete) to acquire, jointly with E.ON Kraftwerke GmbH (active in the generation of electricity in conventional, mostly coal-fired power plants) control over BauMineral Herten GmbH, which is active in the processing and sale of mineral construction materials that are by-products of electricity generation in coal-fired power plants, in particular hard-coal fly ash. Given the fact the fact that there is a number of significant competitors active in this sector, the Commission has found that the concentration does not create or strengthen a dominant position in the market.
