Europol says there are fewer forged euro notes than counterfeit notes in national currencies

Brussels, 31/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The counterfeiting of euro notes over the first half of 2002 has proven less frequent and of poorer quality than the counterfeiting of notes in national currencies, in the euro zone in 2001. Only 21,965 forged notes in euros were discovered over the period from January to June, according to European Central Bank figures announced by Europol on Wednesday.
