THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/armed forces

31/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Organisation of Military Associations, Euromil will be organising its 5th International Forum on the theme of "Fundamental Rights in Modern Armed Forces: A Contribution to the Social Debate in Europe". Participants will include Jens Rotboell, President of Euromil, Wim Van Eekelen, Vice President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Catherine Lalumière, Vice President of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee on Security and Defence and Agnes Van Ardenne-Vand der Hoeven, the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly rapporteur "On the right of association for members of the professional staff of the armed forces". At the 30th anniversary of Euromil, the organisation will be keen to emphasise the social implications of changes that have occurred over the last ten years for the armed forces (less job security, increased risks including health risks, greater demands for flexibility, mobility and training). It will also be pointing out the contribution that it could give to the "social dimension of security and defence policy on national and international levels". (Information: Hilde Craninx, Brussels.
