Concern about verdicts against Ibn Khaldoun Centre and League of Women Voters

Brussels, 31/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - On behalf of the EU, the Danish Presidency has issued a declaration on the sentences pronounced against Egyptian human rights activists (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.2 for Commissioner Chris Patten's declaration). The full text of the declaration reads:

"The European Union has closely monitored the legal proceedings in Egypt against Dr Saad Eddin Ibrahim and the employees of the Ibn Khaldoun Centre and Hoda Association (League of Egyptian Women Voters)....
