Commission receives mandate to negotiate bound duties for imports of cereals at EU borders

Brussels, 26/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Council of Ministers has officially agreed (with the adoption of a decision by written procedure) to entrust the European Commission with a mandate for negotiating at the WTO on replacing the Community import regime for cereals with a quota and fixed tariff system (see EUROPE of 25 July, p.12). The aim is to negotiate with supplying third countries (Argentina, the US, the Ukraine and Russia) over the size of the quotas and customs duties while...
