Brussels, 24/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - As we had announced on Tuesday, the Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper) has approved the draft letter that the Union, through the intermediary of Mr De Vost (agent for the fifteen Member States) is to forward to Mr Kotaite, the president of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), on the subject of the complaint filed by the United States against Belgium in the hushkit affair. In his letter, to be handed over before the end of July, the EU calls on the ICAO to intervene with the United States so that it withdraws its complaint against Belgium, and repeats that the compatibility of the Belgian royal decree with the European directive on hushkits is an internal matter under examination at the European Commission (see our bulletin of 23 July, p.10).
