Brussels, 24/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - According to press release by the European Animal Feed Federation (FEFAC) a conference will take place in October with regard to effective measures that could be taken to identify fraudulent food chain practices.
The FEFAC has expressed its concern at the dysfunctionality of animal feed safety measures, which has undeniably resulted in fraudulent acts being committed by waste treatment firms, which mistakenly classified hormone waste as safe products. The federation stresses in its communiqué that the fraud can be located in the subsidiary that deals with the dangerous waste, which it should have eliminated; between no more than 2%-3% of glucose syrup, contaminated by a Bioland product had been used in the commercial production of animal feed over a period of three months (March - May 2002); the rest was delivered to the agri-food industry from the beginning of July, as well as to breeders that mix their animal feed themselves.
