Brussels, 22/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is expected to adopt, on Wednesday, at a proposal by Michaele Schreyer, a draft supplementary and amending budget (SAB) No4 aimed at releasing EUR 70 million from the 2002 budget for aid programmes in favour of Afghanistan. The budgetary authority (Council and Parliament) had last year decided to use part of the margin left under the ceiling of financial perspectives under Heading 4 (external actions: see EUROPE of 23 November) to this end. During the Budget Council, the budgetary authority agreed to made EUR 25 million available (humanitarian aid) for this country under the emergency aid reserve, still in the context of the 2002 budget (see EUROPE of 20 July, p.7).
