Brussels, 02/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - Commissioner for Enlargement, Günter Verheugen, and representatives from towns and regions from candidate countries will participate on Wednesday at 15 H at the plenary session of the Committee of the Regions for a short debate on enlargement. Preparing local and regional collectives for enlargement and regional policy reform will be the two main subjects for debate. This will be followed by a discussion on the role f the Committee of the Regions in the enlarged Europe. The plenary session will be followed on Thursday by two contributions to the debate: Danish Minister for European Affairs, Berel Haarder and the Vice President of the Convention on the future of Europe, Giuliano Amato. Only three recommendations will be adopted during this session. They will focus on the report of the Committee on the increased participation in the labour market and an active old-age, the Commission's White Paper on "A New Impetus for European Youth" and the Commission recommendation on a new Community strategy on health and safety for 200-2006.
