Increase in seizures of drugs in Europe in 2001 - Declaration on customs cooperation against organised crime

Brussels, 02/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - Customs officials throughout Europe intercepted more drugs in 2001 than in 2000, with 7,479 seizures of main drugs as opposed to 5,867 in 2000, it was announced by the World Customs Organisation in its annual report "Customs and Drugs". The quantity of cocaine seized has more than doubled (3,710 detection operations for 35,812 kilos against 13,423 kilos in 2000), while that of heroin has fallen (from 7,560 to 5,158 kilos).
