No change in production in construction industry

Luxembourg, 28/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - According to figures released by Eurostat on 27 June, production in the construction industry remained unchanged in the Eurozone (0.0%), but grew by 0.1% in the European Union as a whole (EU15) in the first quarter of 2002 compared with the last quarter of 2001. This trend follows growth of 0.5% in the eurozone and 0.5% in EU15 in the last quarter of 2001. Production rose the most sharply in the construction industry in Finland (5.0%) and the UK (3.0%) while the lowest increases were in Germany, Austria and Sweden (all -1.8%). In annual terms, production rose by 0.9% in the eurozone and 1.7% in the EU15 in the first quarter of 2002, following a fall of 0.6% and 1.3% respectively in the last quarter of 2001. The biggest annual rises were registered in Luxembourg (9.6%), Spain (8.6%) and the UK (8.2%) in the first quarter of 2002. The biggest falls ).
