Luxembourg, 28/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - According to a flash estimate published by Eurostat on Friday, annual inflation in the eurozone was expected to be 1.7% in June 2002, down from 2.0% in May 2002. The Statistical Office of the European Communities says that this is the lowest rate since December 1999 when eurozone annual inflation was also 1.7%. The eurozone inflation is measured by the Monetary Union Index of Consumer Prices and for flash estimates, Eurostat uses early price information relating to the reference month from Member States for which data is available as well as early information about energy prices.
