The American investment fund MADISON DEARBORN PARTNERS has launched a takeover bid on the Irish paper company JEFFERSON SMURFIT (turnover EUR 4.56 billion in 2001 with 70,000 employed), an offer that gives the latter a value of EUR 3.7 billion. The Irish group has accepted the offer.
