I've read quite a few sometimes very subtle analyses of the ideas put forward by the far-right during the general elections in France but I haven't read any that have assessed how the considerable number of French citizens reacted to the colossal stupidities of Jean Marie Le Pen on Europe. Withdrawal from the Euro, re-establishing border controls, re-conquest of national autonomy - a programme that any decent citizens could only possibly reject. Which is what has happened. Commentators and most political strategists continue to believe that the attitude on Europe hasn't played any part in the election results. They are mistaken. I continue to believe the contrary (see this section on 26 April and 8 May) and that these very commentators and politicians are to blame for ignoring this fact. Additional proof, the lowly score by Mr Chevènement, whose election campaign was full of anti-European garbage. The electorate chose to completely ignore it, despite his considerable media support.
