17/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - The EP adopted the report by Dutch Green Theodorus J.J. Bouwman on the draft regulation on Community statistics on income and living conditions in the EU (EU-SILC), stressing that there should be as great a continuity as possible between the Community Household Panel and EU-SILC and regretting that neither scheme covered the year 2002 although there is a pressing need to have reliable, comparable data in this connection. The EP feels it is important for Member States to immediately start collecting as much data as possible within the framework of EU-SILC even though it might not be possible to set various indicators for a while. MEPs added that it should be clearly set out in the regulation that the time taken to collect and use the statistics should be as short as possible.
