Brussels, 06/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - Göke Frerichs, President of the Economic and Social Committee, will be the guest of the plenary session of the EU's Committee of the Regions, to be held on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 May in Brussels. The plenary will mainly discuss the role of organised civil society in tomorrow's Europe.
The Committee of the Regions is to adopt opinions on the following issues in particular: - common policy on illegal immigration, administrative cooperation ion the fields of external borders, coordination of Community immigration policy, minimum standards for claiming refugees status, and common asylum policy (Ms Bagnall, PES, British); - the labelling of genetically modified food, foodstuffs and animal feed, crossborder movement of GMOs (Mr Bertrand, EPP, France); - promotion of the use of biofuels in transport (Mr Bocklet, EPP, Germany); - Community guidelines for the development of trans-European transport network (Mr Valcarcel Siso, EPP, Spain); - action programme for the achievement of European Single Sky (Mr Verburg, EPP, NL); - regional dimension of European research area (Mr Müller, EPP, Germany); - the creation of a joint company for Galileo (Mr Tabakidis, PES, Greece); - eEUROPE 2002 - Accessibility of public websites and their content (Mr Zervelä, ELDR, Finland); - common financial framework 2004-2006 for accession negotiations (Lord Hanningfield, EPP, Britain).
