Second meeting of "quartet" on 2 May in Washington

Washington, 29/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Department of State's spokesman, Richard Boucher, has confirmed that a second meeting of the "Quartet" will be held, on 2 May, in Washington. The Quartet was created on 10 April in Madrid to relaunch action for peace in the Middle East, coordinated between the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations (see EUROPE of 11 April, p.3). Participants at this second meeting, to be held in parallel to the European Union/United States summit, will include US Secretary of State Colin Powell, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, EU Council President Josep Piqué, High Representative for CFSP Javier Solana and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
