26/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - Italian Radical Marco Cappato MEP, has asked on the EP President for an enquiry into the anti-Le Pen demonstration that took place in the Parliament building on 24 April (see EUROPE of 25 April, p.7 and 26 April, p.5). The MEP wonders about the security arrangements taken on that occasion and also explains that, on his arrival at the Parliament on Wednesday, he had found "some 200 people bivouacking , sitting in the street adjacent to the entry, around a fire lit for the occasion", and that, before gaining access to the building, he had been pushed back by a police officer. May we have explanations from the Belgian police as to why they had not given instructions to their officers to allow MEPs to enter "their" parliament? He wants to know.
