Brussels, 26/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The spokesman for the European Convention, Nikolaus Meyer Landrut, told the press on Friday that the Convention's Presidium had decided to create two working groups, one on subsidiarity, the other on the Charter of Fundamental Rights. Their constitution should be decided upon at the next plenary session, on 23 and 24 May. They will reflect the Convention's composition, Meyer Landrut pointed out, considering, personally, that to guarantee the effectiveness of these groups, the number of members should not exceed 20 to 25. The working groups should present their reports in the autumn, he added. The Presidium has not yet decided who will be the chairs, but it should be members of the Presidium. Mr. Meyer Landrut said that, in the longer-term, there should be five or six working groups.
