26/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, said in Stockholm on Thursday, where he went following his meetings in Jerusalem and Ramallah with Miguel Angel Moratinos, that "the sooner we engage in the final phase of (peace) negotiations, the better. I believe that we should continue working at that. Remains that they (Israelis and Palestinians) are not completely ready" (see yesterday's EUROPE, p. 5). "I don't believe that in the absence of a political perspective we can secure the results we'd like, including the cease-fire", he regretted. As for the Greek and Turkish Foreign Ministers, Georges Papandreou and Ismail Cem, having met Arafat in Ramallah on Thursday, they stressed the symbolic value of their initiative for a troubled region like the Middle East, as example of rapprochement between two old enemies.
