Brussels, 25/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to fund several humanitarian programmes for refugees and displaced persons:
Save the Children projects (EU 1.7 million) and World Vision Deutschland (EUR 860,000) helping children in the province of North Maluku in Indonesia where th education system has been disrupted by the conflict and the displacement of the population.
Three Action Projects against Hunger, Burma Border Consortium and Malteser Hilfedienst (EUR 4.9 million) for the people of Rakhine State, in Burma and refugee camps in Thailand.
Two UN High Commissioner for Refugees programmes (EUR 1.95 million) and CARE Deutschland (EUR 1.4 million) for internally displaced persons. The projects will begin with facilitating the voluntary return of the victims of conflict and improving their conditions and rights in these countries.
