No steep growth in candidate countries expected in 2002 - Slight fall in inflation but public deficits still large

Brussels, 25/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - In its spring economic forecasts for candidate countries, presented on Wednesday, the European Commission considers that, as the expected recovery in the EU should only be moderate initially, "it is not very likely that economic growth will accelerate in 2002 in transition candidate countries".
