Latvian and Slovenian Members pleased

Brussels, 16/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - Inese Birzniece, a representative from the Latvian Parliament and Alojz Peterle, from the Slovenia Parliament were appointed by the candidate countries as their representatives at the Convention on the Future of Europe Presidium. On Friday at a press conference they expressed their satisfaction with representing candidate country Convention Members and having found a solution to the language problem of candidate countries. The two representatives want to be like the other Members and will only hold meetings separately for particular issues concerning them, explained Mr Peterle. He added that he would address the Presidium on their behalf only if agreed among them. The former Slovenia Prime Minister explained that in a certain sense "they were in a different category because they hadn't had the experience of belonging to the European Union but only the hope of belonging to it.
