Parliament mobilises EU and Member States to make higher education in Europe more dynamic, competitive and attractive

Brussels, 16/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The report of Marielle de Sarnez (EPP France) on a Commission opinion for strengthening co-operation between third countries and higher education has been adopted. In it Parliament calls for the setting up of a European area for competitive knowledge. To achieve this goal, it recommends that the Commission continues to improve and promote the European Community Course Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and work towards establishing a common agreement on a European university label which would be applicable to teaching modules and training in higher education establishments that are recognised for the quality of their teaching and the way students from third countries are treated. It recommends that Member States encourage universities to provide more information on the possibilities of studying in third countries and calls on the EU to promote common education study cycles between Member States that ultimately finish with the granting of commonly recognised degrees.
