Cape Town, 22/03/2002 (Agence Europe) - Following its rapporteur, Edgar-Yves Monnou from Benin, the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly made two amendments to its regulation. It brings in a provision stipulating that ACP members must be parliamentarians or, failing this, representatives appointed by the parliament of each ACP country. If there is no parliament, participation without voting rights of a representative of the State concerned is subject to prior approval by the Joint Parliamentary Assembly. The Assembly has also created three permanent parliamentary committees responsible for: (1) political affairs; (2) economic development and finances and trade; and (3) social affairs and the environment. EUROPE will come back to the other results of the session in greater detail.
