06/03/2002 (Agence Europe) - Michael Rogowski, President of the BDI (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie, German employers) affirmed on the occasion of the opening of the Convention on the Future of Europe that, for the BDI, the future breakdown of competences holds particular interest. "For us, there is greater legal security, transparency and effectiveness in the implementation of European policy", he said, while stressing in a press release that a breakdown of competences that would hinder the further development of the European Union and the internal market would not be the right answer. Those who seek to bring EU powers back to the national level in issues affecting the internal market and competition policy "must expect determined resistance from German industry", announced Mr Rogowski.
