05/03/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission will be presenting the results of its European pilot project on "Second Chance Schools" that aims to provide new education and training opportunities for youngsters who don't have qualifications or the necessary competencies for following training or obtaining a job. Since 1996 (the year the project was launched) 13 schools have been set up in 11 Member States. The projects all have a close partnership between the local authorities and social services, with a teaching approach that focuses on the needs and aptitudes of the young, as well as training modules that facilitate combining basic skills and practical training. A central role is given to information technology.
