Council definitively adopts directive on working hours of drivers, against Spain, Finland and Greece

Brussels, 19/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the Council adopted the directive on the working hours of drivers, following conciliation procedure concluded last December with the European Parliament (see EUROPE of 19 December, p.13). Spain, Finland and Greece, that hoped self-employed drivers would be excluded from the scope of the directive, voted against. Under pressure from the Parliament, the text does not provide for any derogation for self-employed hauliers until 2009. The...
