Brussels, 12/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has granted EUR 8 million in humanitarian aid to Angola for victims of the war there that intensified last year. The money will come from ECHO's budget and will fund humanitarian operations in the field of health, nutrition, water and sanitation, emergency relief, protection and transport, working through various international organisations and NGOs. The key objective is to improve the health conditions of vulnerable people - as many as 500,000 inaccessible people require basic assistance. The warring parties will have to create "humanitarian corridors" in areas they control to give access to populations at risk to the donor community and the European Commission.
