Parliament requests Commission should be able to impose sanctions on Member States and multinational companies failing to comply with Community legislation

Strasbourg, 07/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - Approving its rapporteur, Swedish Liberal Karl Erik Olsson, on the follow-up to be given to the mad cow crisis with regards public health and food safety, the European Parliament above all called for the European Commission to be able to impose sanctions against Member States and multinational companies that breach Community legislation in this connection.
