8/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Central and Eastern European Countries Co-operation Committee (CEEC) and the MEPs' Passport for Freedom group will be organising a debate at the European Parliament on 30 January on national identity and nationalism. This meeting will bring high-level academics together and should reach a number of conclusions on the role of the EU on prevention and resolution of interethnic conflicts and the reduction of nationalism. This event will also provide an opportunity to discuss the "shock of cultures, Hungary, Romania and Moldavia" and the cohabitation of the different communities in Macedonia in the Balkans.
