Brussels, 19/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Union vehemently condemns the violent terrorist attack that was carried out in New Delhi on Thursday 13 December 2001 against the Parliament of the Republic of India, causing the loss of several lives and injury to many innocent people. The European Union deplores this loss of human lives, and wishes to express its indignation that this attack was directed against the very institution that represents democracy and the rule of law. Further to their joint declarations at the recently held India-EU Summit in New Delhi, the European Union wishes to express solidarity and support to the Republic of India in its fight against terrorism, which constitutes a threat to mutually shared values of democracy and respect for human rights.
