Brussels, 19/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission adopted for the period 2000-2006 Urban II programmes and an Interreg programme.
- Urban II Programme for Porto-Gondomar (Portugal): EUR 14.1 million including 9.8 million from the Community budget and EUR 4.19 million from the public sector. The priorities of this programme are: improved urban environment and public areas, the prevention of drug abuse, the promotion of social insertion, the development of economic activities and measures facilitating the reintegration of young people in the educational system.
- Urban II Programme for Alcäntara in Lisbon (Portugal): EUR 10.25 of which EUR 5.66 million is financed by the EU. Priorities are to strengthen social cohesion, promote responsible citizenship, and fight against drug abuse.
- Urban II Programme for Damaia-Buraca in Amadora (Portugal): EUR 5.03 million including EUR 3.56 million granted by the European Union. The programme is geared to improving the urban environment and public areas, preventing drug abuse, promoting social insertion of the immigrant population, and developing economic activities and measures that facilitate the reintegration of young people into the educational system.
- Interreg programmes between France and Italy: EUR 156.8 million, of which 63.3 million is financed by the EU. The programme is geared to: the management of border areas with a view to sustainable development, the strengthening of cross-border identity in the context of European citizenship and the promotion of competitiveness of border areas.
