M Kok relieved at not becoming Chairman of the Convention

Laeken, 17/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - In a statement made to the press at the end of the European Summit in Laeken, the Dutch Prime Minister, Wim Kok, declared that a number of Member States would have liked him to become the President of the Convention that will prepare the next IGC. He said that he was "relieved" that he had not been nominated for this post but that if they had not succeeded in reaching consensus on a possible nominee, he would have flinched from meeting his responsibility....
