17/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - Portuguese Prime Minister, Antonio Guterres, has announced that he will be resigning, following the defeat of the Socialist Party in council election on 16 December (the Party lost control of Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra. Mr Guterres, who had been in power for 10 years, said that he would assume full responsibility for the defeat.
