Kostunica meets Prodi and Solana

Brussels, 03/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - Cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the status of Montenegro and the European Union's support to Yugoslavia were the main subjects discussed at the meetings between Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica, European Commission President Romano Prodi and EU High Representative for CFSP Javier Solana, on Monday in Brussels. After their meeting, Romano Prodi welcomed the commitment of the Yugoslav President that his country should soon adopt a formal cooperation agreement with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Vojislav Kostunica, also, insisted on this point, stressing that cooperation was difficult, and that it would be considerably facilitated if it were founded on an agreement in good and due form. The Yugoslav president also insisted on the importance of the EU's financial and political aid for his country and said he was "particularly encouraged" by the progress made in the projects for cleaning up the Danube. On the subject of relations between Montenegro and Serbia, he said he was "once more encouraged by the EU's support for the integrity of Yugoslavia" (as he hopes Montenegro will remain in the context of Yugoslavia).
