Brussels, 20/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - By adopting without any changes the report by Mauro Nobilia (UEN, Italy) on the Commission Communication concerning the New European labour markets open and accessible to all, the European Parliament formulates two demands, one for the attention of the Commission and the other for the Council, in view of the Barcelona European Council in the spring of 2002. Thus, the Parliament calls upon the Commission to submit, before the Lisbon process follow-up summit, an action plan on the promotion of mobility and the necessary legislative proposals notably for the recognition of qualifications and competencies and the transferability of social security rights. As for the Council, the EP calls upon it too produce a qualitative study on distortions to the labour market that could result from a significant increase in immigration.
