Aid for China, Vietnam, North Korea and Cambodia

Brussels, 20/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - In a press release, the European Commission announces that it will be providing humanitarian aid to four Asian countries that have been hit by natural disasters, namely:

China, awarded an additional EUR 950,000 for the autonomous region of Guangxhi (in the South) where typhoons and floods have affected more than 7 million people and damaged or destroyed 670,000 hectares of farmland, around 50,000 dwellings and various infrastructure units.

Vietnam, to receive EUR 550,000 for isolated villages in the Mekong Delta following the floods of September and October 2001.

North Korea, to receive EUR 200,000 following the floods that hit the East coast in October 2001. Some 12,000 people in the Kangwon Province were particularly badly affected.

Cambodia, to receive EUR 148,000 for the province of Prey Veng (badly effected by the Mekong floods but also by drought).
