07/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - The President of the European Parliament, Nicole Fontaine, said she is deeply shocked by the murder of José Maria Lidon Corbi, Judge and Professor of Law in the Basque Country, who died on Wednesday morning following an attack perpetrated in Getxo. Ms Fontaine said it was in Madrid yesterday and today in the Basque Country that horrible acts are being perpetrated, acts that run counter to civilised conscience, acts carried out by those who again show that the right to life does not mean anything for them. She sends her heartfelt and sincere condolences to the family and expresses her support to all those who are fighting this scourge. Commissioner Antonio Vitorino also condemned this act, on behalf of the European Commission, and restated his solidarity towards the people and the government of Spain.
