Anna Diamantopoulou discusses crisis with social partners in aviation industry

Brussels, 07/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - On November 6, the Commissioner for Social Affairs, Anna Diamantopoulou, discussed ways of getting out of the crisis that is currently hitting the civil aviation industry with a delegation of representatives of the social partners from civil aviation. A spokesperson for the social partners said they had decided to turn to Ms Diamantopoulou in the "absence of a general forum for dialogue with the Commission in the event of crisis" and had emphasised to her the need for "immediate aid" and the strengthening of cooperation between the different Commission departments (DG Transport and DG Employment in particularly). Anna Diamantopoulou noted that instruments existed (including the European Social Fund) that could help get out of the current crisis which was connected with the need to make structural reforms and also the recession, and not simply the events of 11 September.
